State Archaeologist Dr. Brian Jones (L) and Chase Davis, owner of CD Masonry Restoration (2nd from L) use shovels to excavate the base in the Nathan Hale Cemetery in Coventry while Town Engineer Todd Penney (C) watches on Wednesday August 12, 2015. CD Masonry Restoration was brought in by the town to repair the wall which was bulging out towards Lake Street. Due to the historic nature of the cemetery, Dr. Jones was asked to ensure that now artifacts were disturbed, though none were expected to be found due to the distance from the graves. The wall, which is believed to have been built when the Nathan Hale Monument was constructed in the mid 1800’s, was last temporarily repaired 20 years ago. The latest repairs are expected to last much longer. Also pictured Glenn Gurney (2nd from R, and Jarred Mahota (R), both employees of CD Masonry Restoration. (Jared Ramsdell / Journal Inquirer)
